Queenstown in New Zealand (NZ) is known as the adventure capital of the world. It is also the capital of the New Zealand skiing industry as it lies close to several major ski resorts. Queenstown also has both an international and a domestic airport so it makes it really easy to access from almost anywhere in the world. Queenstown is located on the south island of New Zealand and it is built on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. High snow capped mountain ranges surround the city and the combination of lake and mountain provides some awe inspiring views. There are also many other activities that now make Queenstown New Zealand’s number one tourist destination. This is the home of bungy jumping and there are several magnificent locations to try this adrenaline pumping sport. Para gliding is also popular as is visiting the local wineries to sample the local cold climate wines that excel here. Recently one of the local wines was voted the best red wine in the world.

Queenstown has developed an extraordinary accommodation industry. Most of the accommodation is either on the lake front or on the hill overlooking the lakes and mountains. There is truly something to suit every budget. The backpacking end of the market has much to offer and then there are the apartments, hotels and resorts to choose from. You will find that everything is of world standard. Dining out in Queenstown is a treat. The range of restaurants and cafes leaves nothing to be desired and the range of local produce is absolutely top quality. The beef, lamb and venison is the best in the world and the dairy products are fantastic. Queenstown’s CBD also offers a wide range of boutiques and souvenir stores. It is a great place to buy your own ski gear or to hire some of the latest brands.

Queenstown’s closest ski fields are within easy reach and you can drive yourself or take the local shuttle bus that runs every half hour or so. Coronet Peak is the nearest snow resort with a sealed road almost all the way to the base station. The Remarkables ski fields are slightly further and a little higher so generally the snow is just that little bit better. The road up is not sealed but it certainly provides its own thrills. This road is cut into the side of the mountain and will appeal to the thrill seeker looking for an adrenaline hit. The drop off to the river below is awesome and the views are indescribable ( If you dare to look ). Cardrona is located in the main range between Queenstown and Wanaka and usually has the best skiing conditions. There is a sealed road most of the way to the resort and the skiing is fantastic. Treble Cone is the fourth of the major ski fields near Queenstown. It has a reputation for being one of the best ski resorts around with plenty of advanced skier terrain.

It does not matter what time of the year you are coming to Queenstown, you will find a destination packed with holiday fun so book it now and come and join the excitement.
