Treble Cone is the largest skiing and snowboarding resort on the south island of New Zealand. It lies closer to Wanaka than to Queenstown however you can stay in either and use the shuttle bus service to take you to the slopes. The resort itself is spread over three large basins and there are ski runs to suit every level of expertise. The children’s slopes here offer the best facilities in New Zealand. It is located 71 kilometers from Queenstown and the drive takes about an hour and a half. The learner area has a magic carpet ride to help the littlies back to the top of the beginners slope.

There are some really long runs at Treble Cone with lengths up to 4.5 kilometers and most are fully groomed. There are plenty of advanced and Olympic standard runs here as well and the USA’s Olympic ski team has used Treble Cone as its off season training base. There is a six seater chair and a new quad chair to help get you back up the mountain quickly and Treble Cone is as popular with the snowboard riders as it is with the skiers. Treble Cone is now one of the most visited ski resorts in New Zealand. There is no on snow accommodation at the resort so you will need to stay in Queenstown accommodation or Wanaka accommodation.

The Views from here are awe inspiring as Lake Wanaka is spread out below and the views of the southern alps and Mt Aspiring are fantastic. There is a proposal to link the resort to the bottom of the access road by a 3.2 kilometer long gondola with a capacity of 2000 skiers per hour. This proposal has now received the necessary approvals and the trip, when finished, will take about ten minutes. Construction times and details are not yet available.
